Zora Digital officially launched in 2016, but its roots go back to 2008, when an unexpected layoff prompted me to rethink what was possible. While many people were focused on finding their next job, I chose to invest in myself, returning to school to earn a master's degree in Integrated Marketing with a concentration in digital marketing. That decision opened the door to a new chapter in my career and a different way of thinking about opportunity.
As I moved between startups and corporate environments, I saw talented professionals, particularly African American women with impressive experience and proven skills, struggle to find their next opportunity after layoffs. I began to see entrepreneurship as more than an alternative to traditional employment. I'd once told a friend that if I ever found myself laid off again, I'd start a company. In 2016, I made good on that promise and founded Zora Digital.
I built Zora Digital to create opportunity so businesses can see what's possible.
The name has a personal story, too. Zora was inspired by my Aunt Ellezora. I also wanted a name that reflected the brand's purpose, so I was drawn to the meaning of Zora: sunlight of dawn. It felt fitting for a company built around insight, fresh thinking, and new possibilities.
Purple was a color I loved, but it also carried a deeper meaning. In Alice Walker's The Color Purple, it symbolizes divinity in everyday life, spiritual awakening, and the beauty of creation. Those ideas resonate with me and reflect how I think about Zora Digital: recognizing potential, seeing opportunity in unexpected places, and creating something meaningful. Yellow brings the sunlight to life, and together, the colors became the foundation of the Zora Digital brand.
Today, Zora Digital brings together digital strategy, marketing, AI, and technology to help businesses navigate change, solve problems, and uncover new opportunities for growth. What began as a decision to create my own opportunity has evolved into a business focused on helping others build what's next.
